'A withdrawn dockworker shelters an unusual creature formed of metal and wire, a fragile line of connection forces him to confront a burden he has long refused to hear.'
Interference is a short film we worked on alongside Winkle Prod. from November 2025 to June 2026 in the animation, production, sound and editing departments, acting as a graduate film for our team.
'Living on the outskirts of a fading and forgotten coastal town, William, a lonely dockworker, drifts through his life of the same routine, kept up for decades. One night, walking home from work, he discovers a strange and unusual creature, dragging itself up the deserted beach. With a broken radio for a head, the creature begins to move, hum and churn out jarring radio signals. Drawn to the obscurity of the thing, he drags it home. A fragile connection forms between the two, man and machine. He repairs the creature as best he can, learning to interpret the mechanical gestures and disjointed sounds. What William doesn’t realise, though, is that the creature’s mind is its own complex thing. It’s no dog to be trained, to be locked up in the shed. Slowly learning to communicate, stripping back human connection to its quietest, rawest form, William is forced to confront the hidden parts of his life he was always too stubborn to make amends with.'
'Yorkie the robot was a character I developed alongside our director Elsie. I leant into the exposed-armature design and produced a vulnerable but memorable character, who I later brought to life by animating him in stop motion into the film on a green screen, excellently composited by our editor Paris into shots conducted by our cinematographer Ellie with a soundscape produced by our sound designer Joe and myself. It was a group effort bringing this character to life.'
